A Look Back at Our Events, Innovation, and Community Over the Years
Since the early 2000s, ntop has been building world-class open-source network monitoring tools — and gathering a passionate community around them. Our conferences and meetups reflect this journey: packed with real-world insights, hands-on demos, and authentic conversations between engineers, researchers, and practitioners.
Below is a timeline of our past events. Each one marks a step forward in our mission to empower the networking community.
Packetfest 2025
PHZH, Zürich – May 7–9, 2025
PacketFest 2025 brought together leading minds in packet analysis, including contributors from ntop, Wireshark, and other open-source networking projects. The event featured deep technical sessions, live demos, and hands-on workshops covering traffic dissection, high-speed monitoring, and packet-based threat detection.
A major focus this year was the emerging role of AI and large language models (LLMs) in cybersecurity and network monitoring — exploring how machine learning can enhance anomaly detection, automate analysis, and improve response workflows.
ntopConf 2023 – University of Pisa
University of Pisa – Sept 21–22, 2023
ntopConf 2023 returning to our hometown, this two-day event featured talks on ntopng, nProbe, and real-time visibility for encrypted traffic. We showcased upcoming tools and hosted deep-dive workshops on performance tuning and scalable deployments.
ntopConf 2022, Bocconi University
Bocconi University, Milan – June 23–24, 2022
ntopConf 2022 our Milan edition brought together academics, telco engineers, and cybersecurity experts. Highlights included sessions on flow analysis at scale, integrations with Suricata and Zeek, and the future of network observability.
ntopConf 2020, Online
Virtual – Nov–Dec 2020
ntopConf 2020 in response to the pandemic, we hosted our first fully virtual ntopConf. Despite the format shift, we kept the community spirit alive with interactive Q&A, live demos, and panel discussions covering remote monitoring, edge deployments, and more.
ntopConf 2019, Padova
Padova – May 8–9, 2019
ntopConf 2019 our Padova event focused on operational excellence: hands-on use cases, automation strategies, and best practices in using ntop tools in production environments. A memorable meetup with long-time contributors and new users alike.
20 Years of ntop, Pisa,
Pisa – October 26, 2018
20 years of ntop: a celebration of two decades of open-source innovation. We reflected on ntop’s journey from a small academic project to a globally used toolkit, while looking ahead at what the next 20 years could hold. A milestone for our team and community.
